What Does Your Dog Say About You?

Posted by Kyle Design on June 4, 2010

Our dog is always on the prowl for something to do, some mischief to get into. There's never a dull moment with Milano!

Mutts may not always look like their people, but we’re 100% confident that our dog DOES look like us, right down to the hair and facial expression!

Have you ever heard the myth that dog owners supposedly look and/or act like their dogs? A fun concept, but something I’d never seriously considered until now. Or rather last week, when I caught a news story featuring the success of a US study to prove this uncanny fact.

Specifically, a survey conducted at UC San Diego has found that people tend to choose dogs that resemble them on some level, so they often select purebred dogs because what they see is what they get. Unfortunately, the same study found inconclusive results for mixed breeds as a hybrid dog’s physical growth is unpredictable, so there’s still a looming question mark over whether or not this applies for us mutt owners. Dang it.

Although lacking in size and so low to the ground, Wiener Dogs never seem to acknowledge their limited size constraints!

Dachshunds are a symbol of endearment here at the studio – with a number of us being doxie owners, we love to trade unique and hilarious stories about our long little dogs!

I guess, regardless of my bearing resemblance to my dog or not, the underlying importance is that every dog owner thinks his/her dog is the greatest. In fact, this idea rings all too true around the studio where every staff member’s desktop is decorated with pooch pictures and mementos of their mongrels. Even I myself am guilty of promoting this animal-friendly atmosphere since one of our latest designs comes in the form of a Dachshund, totally fueling this pet loving attitude.

This particular design has a special place in my heart as it’s largely inspired by my own Dachshund-Papillon mix (Papshund?), Milano, whom my husband and I affectionately refer to as our “coach” since we walk him — or does he walk us? — 7 miles a day. Having been a part of our family for over three years, we’ve gotten to know the in’s and out’s of Millie’s eccentric personality; if we try to slide on walking him, for instance, he “chases” us by hopping around on two feet and nips at our legs, so we do what we can to make him a happy camper.

My pedometer unfortunately won't keep up Milano's pace, but please do let me know if you know of one that can!

As our very own “personal trainer,” Milano keeps us in shape with 7-mile daily walks.

Sometimes, I’m even convinced he says “Waaaaalk” in his low, warbling dog voice. Other times, it pretty much sounds like distressed whale talk to me.

The musings of Milano aside, a “Weenie Dog” design has been a long time coming since several of us at the studio have (or have had) dachshunds, so it seems to be the dog of choice here at Kyle Design.
