Dramatic Aurigids Meteor Shower on September 1, 2007

Posted by Kyle Design on September 1, 2007

Star Night Light in GreenI woke up early this morning in order to see the Aurigids Meteor Shower (September 1, 2007) and was not disappointed. Even though I live in suburbia in Livermore, CA, I was still able to see some dramatic flashes and streaks. According to the astronomers at the Ames Research Center, however, the peak sighting of 100 meteors was clustered around 4:15 a.m., 10 minutes before I went out to look.

Business Card Case with Profile of Man and WomanI had been up since 3:00 a.m. working, but didn’t actually make it outside until about 4:25 a.m. when my husband and I went for our usual morning walk. We left about 90 minutes earlier than normal in hopes of catching sight of some of the meteors. While walking, we were able to watch the dark sky for about 45 minutes. Our final count: 6-4, my win. 🙂 The last one we saw was the largest I’ve ever seen and was a great finale. Designer Hip Flask with Flashy Design

Even at that hour, we discovered that We Are Not Alone. We noticed faces peaking out of windows and even ran into other stargazing neighbors sitting in chairs and taking in the display. Their total: over 20 meteors. An interesting, if odd, way to keep up with the neighbors.

Perhaps they might have enjoyed my new Flash Hip Flask to warm things up a bit for them and help pass the time in good spirits. If we’d sat still and gotten out there a bit earlier our count would have been greater, but all in all it was fun!
