McCain Picks Woman Running Mate – More Cracks in Glass Ceiling
Posted by Kyle Design - Designs by Kyle on August 29, 2008
In a daring, surprise pick, republican presidential candidate John McCain has selected a woman as his vice presidential running mate. His choice is Sarah Palin, the 44-year old governor of Alaska, who was elected in 2006. She is the married mother of five and is known as strong conservative, fiscally and socially. She studied journalism and at the University of Idaho, was the mayor of the small town of Wasilla in Alaska, and has implemented reforms in Alaska since taking the governor’s office two years ago.
She opposes abortion, has a baby son with Down Syndrome, is a former beauty queen, and likes hunting and fishing. Her husband is an oil production operator in Alaska, is a former commercial fisherman and is a member of the United Steelworkers Union.
Palin was quoted as saying, “It was rightly noted in Denver last week that Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America. But it turns out the women of America aren’t finished yet and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all.”
At 44, she is one of the youngest presidential running mate in history, paired with McCain, who at 72 (his birthday is today – August 29), the oldest presidential candidate.
I am very excited that the 2008 presidential election is breaking so much new ground in terms of opportunities for all Americans, black (Obama) and white, young (Obama, Palin) and old (McCain), men and women (Palin).
